Alfred was born on January 9th 1870 in Mayford, Stoke on Trent.
At some point he left Stoke and moved down to London where we find him in the 1901 census, working as a commission agent and boarding with the Bickerton family at 16 Chestnut Grove, Streatham, London.
I next found him at his wedding to my great grandmother, May Victoria Smith (nee Swanborough), on 11th December 1918, at Lambeth Registry Office. At this time he gave his usual address as 39 Somerleyton Road. Also at the time of his wedding he gave his occupation as a Solicitors Clerk (temporarily a postal sorter), which I presume means he was between permanent jobs.
At the birth of his second child, my grandmother, on 22 july 1922, the family were living at 212 Stockwell Road, London. This was the address given by his wife May on their marriage certificate. Also at this time his occupation was given as commission agent again.
Alfred died on 22nd April 1931 at 5 Brunswick Square. This I believe was not the Brunswick square that is currently in North London, for at that time there was another Brunswick square much closer to home in the Peckham area. What exactly this address relates to I do not know, possibly it was his place of work. Alfred was 61 years old when he died of degeneration of the heart. The family were living at 39 Somerleyton Road, Brixton, which was the address Alfred gave on his marriage certificate.

Alfred was buried at Streatham Park Cemetery in London, in square no.8 No. 22993.
