Louisa was born around 1845 in Chickerell, Dorset. I am at present unable to confirm the name of her parents.
At some point between 1859 and 1865 she met George Ayles and they married, again I have not yet discovered when or where this took place.
The 1871 census shows Louisa and George living in Preston, Dorset, although no particular street seems to be apparent. By 1871 the couple had the first three children, Ellen, William and Annie, also in residence with the family was a servant by the name of Mary Bascombe.
In the 1881 Census the family were living in No. 1 Spring Lane, Wyke Regis, which I am led to believe is now part of the Rodwell area. Both Ellen and Annie appear to have left home, the latter is quite surprising as she would only have been 12 or 13 years old, but again I can find no records of her.
Louisa was at this point recorded as a former Laundress, I therefore assume that she had given up work to take care of the home and children. A Laundress was a person (normally a woman) who would go into other peoples houses and do their washing for them. Also by 1881 five more children had appeared, Elizabeth, George J, Frederick, Thomas and my great grandfather Albert Edward.
In the 1891 Census, Louisa is listed as a widow, indicating the loss of her husband George some time earlier. There was a 2 year old daughter, Mabel, at this point so I assume that George had not long passed away. The family were living at Newbury Gardens in Weymouth, and Louisa is listed as living off her own means.
By 1901 all but three of her children had left home. Only Thomas, Mabel and Alice were still at home. Thomas appears to have married a woman called Una and also present in the house is Louisa's granddaughter Elizabeth, almost certainly the daughter of Thomas and Una. Still living in Newberry Gardens, Louisa had gone back to work and was now a brewers labourer.
I am, at the present time, unsure of when Louisa died.
